2009 Season
The Frosh/Soph team finished the year in second place behind undefeated Granada Hills. The team under new coach and 2009 Alumni Erica Alcantara learned the two basic skills of the game including passing and serving. The team used these skills to outlast their opponents and make fewer mistakes. The season was highlighted by an impressive comeback and win at the Birmingham Frosh/Soph Tournament. The Lady Chancellors earned first place with a 7-1 record (their only loss to Alemany by a score of 24-26). They entered playoffs as the number 2 seed and had to fight their way to the finish. They beat Monroe 25-9 in the first round, were down 9-19 to Sylmar in the quarterfinals and fought back to win 27-25, faced Alemany in the semis and won a close one 25-23 with other city teams including Van Nuys and Sylmar cheering Chatsworth on. The Chancellors faced Granada Hills in the finals and dominated to a score of 16-25 to win the tournament. The Chatsworth Frosh/Soph team has won 2 of 4 tournaments held at Birmngham and plan on continuing the winning tradition there. Alejandra Hermosillo, Hanna Berry, and Justine Rodriguez earned All-League honors and Samantha Ruffin earned Honorable Mention for the West Valley.
The Junior Varsity team finished in sixth place in league play. The year, although not a successful one, was one filled with excitment. Throughout the season the team was able to show that they had what it took to win but could not close out a match. A highlight of the season was when the team, not expecting to even make playoffs, surprised everyone (including themselves) and won 5 out of 8 sets in the Sylmar tournament. They were seeded number 12 going against numer 5 Polytechnic. The team won 26-24 in the first round of playoffs knocking out the higher seeded team. In the second round the team was defeated by league foe El Camino who eventually lost in the finals to Palisades.
The Varsity team finished in fifth place in the West Valley League (The top 3 out of 5 teams in the city were from the West Valley). Although their league record was poor, the games that the Chancellors played were good games. The season started in the summer with a 2nd place finish in the Ganesha Summer Tournament. The team showed that it had talent and it needed to be refined. The next obstacle was the Las Vegas tournament of which they won a couple of good games and lost a few close ones (the team was coached by a parent the second day due to illness of Coach Sheriff). The rest of the season was a learning process. Due to the strength of schedule for the Chancellors they made playoffs as the number 14 seed (they were moved to 15 since they were not allowed to play a league opponent in the first round of playoffs) and played number 2 San Pedro. The starting lineup for Chatsworth included 4 sophomores and one freshman. They were able to do well based on the experience they had but were outmatched by a more seasoned team. The future looks bright and with the continued team building and not having to rebuild a team (14 people graduated from the 2008 team), the Chancellors should do well in the future. In the end the Chancellors finished 22nd in the City and 12th in Division 1. All-League accolades go to Cieana Stinson and Jennifer Unger (1st team) and Brittany Brown, Samantha Garner, and Nikki Nilan (2nd team).
2008 Season
The Frosh/Soph team finished the year in fourth place in the West Valley League ending a year of ups and downs. The team, led by Captains Tyler Shanley and Sara Garberg, earned a spot in the Frosh/Soph tournament playoffs by getting second place in pool play (only splitting one match with Cleveland and finishing 7-1). After beating Sylmar-2 in the first round of playoffs they lost to Narbonne 22-25 in the quarter-finals.
The Junior Varsity team was outplayed most of the year due to the lack of experience on the team (most of the players had less than one year of volleyball experience). The team did sweep El Camino during the season and had many close losses for the rest of the league games. However, the team showed its abilities and the future of Chatsworth Volleyball when it earned 2nd place in the Sylmar Tournament only losing to Saugus in the finals. Chatsworth Volleyball looks very good for the future based on this team.
The Varsity team completed their most successful season since 2000 when they went to the city finals. The team began the season with a great showing at the Las Vegas invitational despite missing one All-City player and one All-League player. The girls enjoyed the trip and learned what it was like to play at a higher level. The season began and their only loss in the first half was to Granada Hills in a 2-3 nail-biter. The second half of the season proved to be just as successful with their only loss coming to a very strong Viewpoint team of Calabasas. They won the Sylmar Invitational defeating Hart of Newhall in the finals beating city powers Venice and Sylmar on their way. The girls made it to the semi-finals in the city and lost to league rival Granada Hills to close out their season as the #3 team in the Los Angeles. The team also finished with many individual accolades including league honors for 9 players including Player of the Year for setter, Jenica Braddock, and 3 All-City honors for Jenica Braddock, Reanna Hill (Senior, OH), and Gennifer Brandon (Senior, MB).
2007 Season
The Frosh/Soph earned third place in their conference however the team won the only tournament that Los Angeles City Section holds and they came away victorious. They were crowned champions and are considered one of the best Frosh/Soph teams in the city.
The Junior Varsity team finished the year in second place in league play and they made playoffs. Playoffs however were not a very kind place to the girls. The JV team was ousted from playoffs in the first round losing to Bravo Medical Magnet in two games.
The Varsity team earned second place in the league and entered the playoffs ranked 11th. The Lady Chancellors swept Poly of Sun Valley, beat Van Nuys in four games, and finally lost to rival Taft of Woodland Hills in the quarter finals. The Lady Chancellors finished in 7th place in Los Angeles and look to surpass their accomplishments of the 2007 season.
